Canada’s Ballet Jörgen will bring its production of Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet to New Brunswick this month with performances planned for three of the province’s biggest stages.

Based on the Canadian novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, the ballet follows the adventures of Anne Shirley, an orphan girl sent to live on a farm in the fictional town of Avonlea, Prince Edward Island.

Since it was first published in 1908, Anne of Green Gables has become an international bestseller many times over selling over 50 million copies worldwide and has received several adaptations for television, film and the stage.

Fun Fact: The term “Anne of Green Gables” is currently a registered trademark, owned jointly by the Province of Prince Edward Island and the heirs of L.M. Montgomery. Producers of Anne-related products outside of P.E.I. pay a royalty to the family while Island producers make Anne items royalty free.

A film exploring the development of the ballet is currently streaming on several platforms. Check out the trailer below.

New Brunswick audiences can catch a performance of Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet when it arrives in the province later this month. Tickets are on sale now at each theatre’s box office.
