Aftersurf have completed recording for their debut album. Zach Quit The Band is the first single from Channels, the Miramichi-based group’s forthcoming debut due out in June.

“Zack Quit The Band is that transition to the ghost of a former want, a leftover nothing,” said Aftersurf founder/vocalist Riley Harris. “It’s the beginning of a new direction, but in an upset rather than a conscious pivot point. Zack is just a vehicle for an illusory parley. All internal. If he were a real person though, he would be in that time away, circling back and attempting to become his old self.”

As a first single from the album, Zack Quit The Band hints heavily towards the sounds of new wave pop and British post-punk, skillfully captured by engineer Dylan Ward who also engineered the group’s debut single, You Wanted to, released shortly after the band formed in 2017.

If this single is any indication, Channels stands to be an album to watch for.

“The project really started to take shape in April of 2017 when Riley brought me along to be a bit of a producer/co-writer on some song ideas that he had been working on,” said guitarist Dillon Ryan. “We’ve recorded this album pretty much three times over the course of two years before we got to a point where both Riley and myself would sign off on it. It’s the first project that I’ve taken on the role of Producer. The album was recorded at Shiftwork Studios with Dylan Ward & Slanted Glass Studios with Ross Cole.”
